The sky showcases its diamonds every night,
Regardless of the pollution that hides it from sight.
The vast land still supports our every need,
Even though our mining makes it bleed.
The great oceans continue their bountiful offerings,
Despite our merciless culling of their offsprings.
The forest cleans the air we breathe,
While we take its essence and away we leave.
If I embrace a tree, I can feel the life in it.
If I tell the tree my sorrows, it will bear witness to it.
If I cut the tree down, it will still forgive me.
But I would have lost a friend who had nurtured me,
Heard my stories, and despite my faults, had loved me.
Maybe then I’ll realise the taste of the sea
Is the same as the tears in me.
